Our History
Mountain View Heating was founded by Gary and Sharrell Bunger in 1979, when Gary’s career in the clothing industry was ended from a flailing Central Oregon economy. Mountain View Heating was incorporated on Feb. 1, 1980 with two employees working out of a small warehouse behind Bend Cinemas on Highway 97.
In 1986 with 35 employees, Mt. View Heating moved to a new location with a 5000 sq. ft. warehouse on Bridgeford Blvd. and became “the” Lennox dealer in Central Oregon. In the years to come Mountain View Heating would add fireplaces, indoor air quality, radiant floor heating and solar products to their sales to better serve the comfort needs of their customers. Two of the Bunger children, Gary Gene and Buffy, began working full time in the business after finishing their college careers in 1992.
In 1994, Mountain View Heating, then numbering 50+ employees had outgrown its facilities and moved across the street to a 12,000 sq. ft. building. By 2001, Gary and Sharrell began their retirement by spending the winters in a warmer climate. Gary Gene and Buffy were given partial ownership and started new careers of working on the business rather than in it. In January of 2003, Gary was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away less than 5 months later leaving the full ownership to Gary Gene and Buffy.
The growth continued and in November 2004 with nearly 100 employees Mountain View Heating moved to its current 30,000 sq. ft. location on 9th Street. Tragedy again befell the Bungers on Oct. 17, 2006 when Gary Gene was in a tragic car accident and succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 23, 2006. Buffy continues to own and run Mountain View Heating with the overwhelming support of the employees, her family and the community.
